Instructions for Global Protect GUI for Ubuntu/Fedora
Downloading and Installing GlobalProtect
- Click here to download the GlobalProtect client for Linux. (This file is hosted on the BJU wiki; login required.)
- Save the file to your Downloads folder.
- Go to your Downloads folder, right click, and select Open in Terminal.
- Run the following command in the terminal window, changing the version number if necessary.
- If the installation completes successfully, the GlobalProtect GUI will appear asking for a portal address.
Connecting to VPN with GlobalProtect
- Enter rvpn.bju.edu as the portal address and click Connect.
- Multi-factor authentication is enabled for the GlobalProtect app. On the Sign in page, enter your BJU email address and click Next.
- When prompted, enter your BJU password and click Sign in.
- Next Verify your identity using one of the authentication methods you have set up. Upon verification, you should be logged in to GlobalProtect.
- The GlobalProtect GUI will show that you have successfully connected to the BJU network. You can close the welcome window.
Disconnecting GlobalProtect
- Current versions of Ubuntu and Fedora use the GNOME desktop. The indicator icon that should be in the panel is missing. In this case, browse your installed applications for the GlobalProtect application and run it to open the client; then click the Disconnect button.
- If you’re not using GNOME, and the indicator icon is visible, click (or double-click) the globe icon at the top right of the screen, then click Disconnect.
- When you need to reconnect, if the indicator icon is not visible, run the GlobalProtect application again. Otherwise, click (or double-click) the globe icon.
- Click Connect.
Removing the Global Protect client
- To remove the GlobalProtect agent, run the following command in a terminal window:

- Navigate to the download folder in a terminal window
- In the terminal window run the following command, changing the version number as necessary.
- If your distribution is not supported by the automated installer, it will extract all available installation packages and notify you of the path to the installation packages. Navigate to the directory indicated and take any steps necessary to install on your distribution.
- After the installation completes, the GlobalProtect app will automatically launch.
- Specify rvpn.bju.edu as the portal address.
- Enter your BJU credentials when prompted to begin the connection process. NOTE: Multi-factor authentication is enabled for VPN. When logging in, users will be prompted for their second authentication factor.
