The campus filter is set to allow with authentication, allow, or block internet sites. These three settings are based on categories set up by our filter. If you are being asked for your credentials that means you are going to a website that has been put in a category that requires authentication.
The following is a partial list of categories, how they are being treated by the filter, and a brief description for some categories. Some categories should be straight forward as to why they are allowed or blocked and those have not been included in this list.
Abortion – Allow
“Sites which provide information or arguments in favor of or against abortion, describe abortion procedures, offer help in obtaining or avoiding abortion, or provide information on the effects, or lack thereof, of abortion.”Alcohol – Block
Alternative Sexuality/Lifestyles – Authentication needed
“Sites that provide information, promote, or cater to alternative sexual expressions in their myriad forms. Includes but is not limited to the full range of non-traditional sexual practices, interests, orientations, or fetishes. This category does not include sites that are sexually gratuitous in nature which would typically fall under the Pornography category, nor does it include lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgender or any sites which speak to one’s sexual identity.”Alternative Spirituality/Belief – Allow

LGBT – Authentication needed
“Websites that provide reference materials, news, legal information, anti-bullying and suicide-prevention information, and other resources for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (“LGBT”) people or that relate to LGBT civil rights.
